how to convert a 88 Chevy solid front axle?
I have an 88 K2500 I wana convert a solid front axle. I'm goin to use a GM 10 bolt 86 k5 my truck has six legs that bolt and the bolt 10 is there a way easier and cheaper to convert my truck that buyin the kit? i dont wana spend 700 on a kit of over 300 on new gear and shock anyone have any advice or know where to find cheaper kits?
A kit as from ORU will make your swap much easier. One problem you'll have that 10B is a differential on the passenger side, so you need to swap your box transfer to a different unit. You will need to use the t-box of a 88-91 Fullsize blazer or 1/2-ton suburbs. The case will bolt up your trans and you will not need to change your line to pull back (you will need to have the front 1 manufactured or modified). Another way is obtain an 8-lug D44/60 from a Ford or Dodge '94 + would even work (the axle Ford would be the best choice), then install a float 14B full advantage of an 8-lug GM truck. Now you do not need to swap T-case, but you should mod your rear driveshaft, and you would have 1-ton rolling to start. Remember that the swap will require you to lift the rear end of a few centimeters. Doing a swap SAS will gain you 3-4 "of lift wven running leaf springs stock height. The least expensive would be to wait until you see a 6-lug axles with the same ratio as what you have now. Junkyard t-box and rebuild it and rebuild the axle. If you must exchange gear road for him (depending on size of tire, and he will always help). Spend the $ $ $ on the kit ahead even if he will make your life much more easier than it fabbing on the fly!
