You'll wonder, "How can you remove a dent from a motorcycle tank?" It is a good question, and one which has much People puzzle over the years. Specialists in this area of dent removal have it these days to an art. Their dent removal techniques are like magic.
How to remove dent a tank of a motorcycle? Inside out by pushing or by pulling out, either way the dent is removed.
Motorcycle Gas tanks have their caps on the top, usually at the highest point. That way they can be filled to the maximum. Unfortunately, the Gas Caps on motorcycle tanks are not large openings.
Some motorcycle gas tanks are double skinned. It is a bit like a tank in a tank. This type of Gas Tank makes it difficult to remove the dent from the inside if you are under pressure applied to the inside metal skin, and not the outside metal skin where the dent actually is.
However, if a single tank wall, or metal skin, then the job very easy. Well, easy in the hands of an expert at least. The first thing done is to attach an object a bit like a flag on the tank. It has a flexible mounting that can be adjusted at every corner, and at the end is a rectangular flag-like card with parallel black lines running the length of it on a white background.
This is a very smart idea. The "flag" is reflected in the shiny paint of the motorcycle gas tank. If the tank is the factory in Perfect Condition, then the reflected black lines will all be smooth. If on the other hand, the tank is affected, then the reflected lines will converge, balloon and be distorted if the dent is reflected. This is important!
As the dent is massaged and stroked by inside, using a special tool designed for removing dents in motorcycle gas tanks, the reflected black lines in the region of the dent will be less and less explosive and distorted. By the time the technician has completely removed the whole dent, the reflection will be smooth and perfect.
Of course the actual area of the motorcycle tank continuously monitored both for smoothness. But the reflections of the black lines is perhaps the best visual and actual guide as to the presence or otherwise of the dent. Well done, the dent will vanish completely and the repair will be completely invisible. That is the mark of a good motorcycle dent removal - nothing to see.
The days of answering the question: "How can you remove a dent from a motorcycle tank?" by removing the tank, rubbing it down, or removing the paint with stripper completely, then the applying filler, rubbing that down before re-spraying the whole thing, but everything has gone.
Today expert technicians use paintless dent removal techniques. They try to leave their original factory paint exactly as it is. Also attempt to remove the dent with leaving a mark, and more often than they fail.
