I am allergic to my new miniature schnauzer puppy. I had one as a child and as an adult before.?
I do not understand why I would be alergic to a miniature schnauzer puppy when I had one as a child and previously as an adult. I have bathed the dog several times, but after being around it for just a few minutes, my throat gets sore, and feels clogged up, and it is difficult to swallow. Does anyone know why I would be allergic to a puppy or this breed when I previously had no problem?
It could be because its a puppy.. a dog's coat and skin changes as it matures.. ussually puppies produce less allergens tho. I have heard of people who can tolerate the adult version, but have a hard time with young pups tho.
It could be because its a new addition to the home.. your body hasnt built up a tolerance to that individual dog yet. I know many people with allergies who suffer for a few weeks every time they get a new pet, but they soon get used to that individual animal, and it then no longer bothers them.
It could just be that individual pup. I know of someone who has allergies to dogs.. even within idividuals of the same breed, she had to have special allergy tests done from each of her dogs to figure out which one was causing her problems. She was allergic to one of her Cresteds, but not her Chihuahua.
Its possible the dog is not purebred. I have another friend who is not allergic to most breeds.. but there are a few that bother him. Cresteds do not cause him problems, but Schnauzers do. He got a pup that was a hairless Crested/Schnauzer mix, and discovered that he has a mild allergy to his pup.
